School initiative
As part of the Breathe Clean, Air Quality awareness project, we have been working with schools across the district to highlight some of the simple, small actions we can all do to protect ourselves from air pollution and reduce our personal contribution to the issue.

In particular, the school initiative focuses on encouraging active travel alternatives to daily commutes, and combating the high levels of idling found to happen outside schools.
We have developed a series of resources for teachers to use with school age children, to raise awareness of:
- the causes and impacts of air pollution
- the meaning and benefits of active travel
- the meaning and risk of idling
- alternatives to private car use for school commuting
Teachers can find the available factsheets and activities in the Resources section of the Kids Zone.
